Play it cool, New Yorkers.
Steven Spielberg‘s “West Side Story” remake is heading to Harlem this summer to film, Page Six has exclusively learned. A source told us that the movie is set to shoot outside apartments on 131st Street between Fifth and Lenox avenues in mid-July.
It’s unknown which cast members will appear on that particular set.
Rita Moreno — who won an Oscar for the role of Anita in 1961’s original “West Side Story” movie — confirmed that she’ll appear in Spielberg’s remake as Valentina, a reworked version of the character Doc, the owner of a corner store where Tony works. Ansel Elgort has been cast as Tony.
Set on the Upper West Side, the musical follows two star-crossed lovers, Tony and Maria, who are each associated with rival New York street gangs, the Jets and the Sharks. Pulitzer-winning playwright Tony Kushner (“Angels in America”) is adapting the script.
