Dancing with the Company of Orlando Shakespeare's WEST SIDE STORY

by Libby Champion

This week, I caught up with the company of Orlando Shakespeare Theater's WEST SIDE STORY!
They dazzled me with a performance of their dance from the "America" portion of the show, and then it was time for me to put my dancing shoes on. While I have a long way to go to catch up to the amazing talent and grace of the cast, I had an AMAZING time learning the choreography and I have a new-found appreciation for the work these dancers put into this outstanding show. Don't miss Orlando Shakespeare Theater's production of WEST SIDE STORY, running now through October 9. You can get your tickets at

West Side Story (the movie) and the 15th Anniversary of 9./11:

The year 2001 was a rather strange and sad year, overall. Movies were at an all time low, and, for me and my family, life was saddened by my dad's being bed-ridden with a serious illness that eventually took him over and killed him. Even the top neurologist here in the United States, in the Neurology Department of St. Elizabeth's Medical Center here in Boston, was totally unable to figure out what was going on with my dad, despite every effort under the sun to find out what was going on and to attack dad's illness failed. My dad died from his illness in late January of 2001, at 76 years old. An autopsy, the results of which came back several months later, revealed a rare but-then-always fatal form of encephalitis known as Limbic Encephalitis. Life that year was saddened for all of us, due to the passing of a warm-hearted, wonderful father, friend, great conversationalist, as well as someone who lived and loved life to the fullest, and stuck with everybody through thick and thin, despite getting assignments all over the country, as a famous free-lance photo journalist.
